Volvo C70
The all-new Volvo C70 can be transformed seamlessly from a coupe into a convertible; the retractable hardtop folding away quickly and smoothly into the trunk. Apart from the flexibility offered by the retractable hardtop it also makes for a quieter, more comfortable coupe. The large rear window glass offers outstanding outward visibility and improves body rigidity.
Volvo S40
The newest member of Volvo's S-range of sporting sedans continues to be offered in three versions: The value-leading S40 2.4i; the performance-oriented S40 T5 and the all-weather S40 T5 AWD. Enhancements for 2006 include a new, simplified Package and option structure, redesigned alloy wheels and improved cup holders. T5 models receive a "pushdown" function to engage reverse gear for the 6-speed manual transmission.
Volvo S60
The S60, Volvo's sportiest, most dynamic sedan, is ideally positioned between the larger S80 and smaller S40. For all S60 models are turbocharged. The normally aspirated S60 2.4 has been discontinued. Four versions of the versatile S60 sport sedan are offered for 2006: the S60 2.5T, S60 2.5T AWD, S60 T5 and the 300-horsepower S60 R.
New All-Wheel Drive with Instant Traction™ is standard on the S60 2.5T AWD. It mates with the S60 2.5T's 2.5-liter turbocharged engine for positive, instantaneous torque and optimum launch performance. The improved, computer controlled Haldex all-wheel-drive system instantly delivers up to 50 percent more torque to the rear axle only when needed, such as during takeoff.
Volvo S80
Volvo's flagship S80 sedan focuses on luxury for 2006 via a simplified model lineup. The range now comprises the S80 2.5T and the S80 2.5T AWD. The previous T6 and T6 Premier variants have been discontinued. Meanwhile, the list of standard equipment for the 2.5T and 2.5T AWD has been greatly enhanced. For example, the former Premium and Sport option packages are now standard.
Thus, the S80 2.5T and 2.5T AWD are fitted with standard leather seating surfaces, power glass moonroof, real wood inlays, a wood-trimmed steering wheel and power passenger's seat. Also included are standard T6 style front and rear sport seats, 17-inch "Senator" alloy wheels and the more upscale "watch dial" instrumentation.
Volvo V50
Introduced last year, the V50 is a uniquely Volvo premium compact Activity Sportswagon. It offers a compelling synthesis of safety leadership, exhilarating performance and vibrant design and style.
The newest Volvo continues to be offered in three versions: The most attainable is the V50 2.4i. The performance-oriented V50 T5 and the all-weather V50 T5 AWD enhance the fun-to-drive factor. Changes for 2006 include a new, simplified package and option structure, redesigned alloy wheels and improved cupholders. T5 models receive a "pushdown" function to engage reverse gear for the 6-speed manual transmission.
From the outside, the V50 is unmistakably a Volvo, a modern evolution of the sportswagon design language that began with the V70 family wagon. "The V50 is the result of a consistent design strategy, in which the Volvo character has been developed for each new model," says Henrik Otto, Volvo Cars' Design Director. "Our newest sportswagon is indisputably a genuine Volvo but, at the same time, it has its own, totally individual and distinct profile."
Volvo V70
Following significant updates for 2005, the versatile Volvo V70 receives minor changes for 2006. Among them are new standard 16-inch alloy wheels for both the V70 2.4 and 2.5T. Option package contents have been revised while the color palette has been enhanced with two new hues. Meanwhile, the model line has been consolidated with the discontinuation of the V70 T5.
The safest wagon ever built by Volvo, the V70 benefits from a comprehensive array of safety features. Included are the standard Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) with side airbags and Inflatable Curtain (IC), Whiplash Protection Seating System (WHIPS), seat belts with pyrotechnic pretensioners in all seating positions, dual-stage front airbags (SRS), Volvo's safety cage construction and the ISO-FIX attachment for rearward-facing child safety seats.
Volvo XC70
Later in 2005 (as a 2006 model), Volvo's new Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) will be available as an option on the XC70. A digital camera that takes 25 pictures per second is installed on each door mirror. By comparing the pictures taken, the system can register when a vehicle is moving within the BLIS zone, which measures 31 feet long by 9.8 feet wide on either side of the car. The system is programmed to identify cars as well as motorcycles, in daylight as well as at night. Since BLIS is camera-based, however, it has the same limitations as the human eye does. This means the system will not function in conditions of poor visibility, for instance in fog or flying snow. In such a case, the driver receives a message that BLIS is not in action. It is also configured not to react to parked cars, road barriers, lampposts and other static objects.
Volvo XC90
Making its debut in mid-2005, the XC90 V8 became the most powerful model in Volvo's history. The transversely mounted, compact V8 was tailor-made for the XC90 using a 60-degree "V" configuration. It displaces 4.4-liters and features state-of-the-art technology with 32-valves and continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing (CVVT). The naturally aspirated V8 develops 311 horsepower at 5,850 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,900 rpm. In addition to providing premium SUV buyers with the power of a V8, the engine is also the first V8 to meet the stringent ULEV II emissions standards.
