7 "must-see" vehicles drive the 2008 model year lineup

Every fall, a handful of vehicles sets the pace for the new model year. Though individual driving needs differ and abound, quality workmanship and performance become obvious. That's why these seven gleaming new rigs are sure to be centers of attention at the Seattle International Auto Show, presented by State Farm, Oct. 31-Nov. 4, at Qwest Field Event Center:

Audi R8
"The everyday exotic has arrived," trumpets Motor Trend. Intoxicating style, combined with 420 horses, Audi's first-ever mid-engine sports car hits 100 mph in 10.5 seconds. Not quite your everyday errand-mobile.

Chevy Malibu
Longer and wider, with a new look inside and out, the all-new-to-you Malibu goes head to head against Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. With appealing fuel economy of 18-24 city/26-35 its likelihood for success just went up.

Ferrari 599GTB
Be the first on your block to own the most powerful production Ferrari and get ready for the show of hands: "How fast?" (0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds) "What kind of engine?" (612 horsepower V12) "How much?" $250,000 and change. Hands down, the best-ever Ferrari.

GMC Yukon Hybrid
Roominess, road versatility and luxury meet up with increased fuel-economy –as in 23 highway miles per gallon.

Honda Accord
Arguably the most important "new" passenger car for 2008. The eighth-generation Accord Coupe wins style points for its new exterior. Dependability still reigns.

Hyundai Veracruz
One of the best-kept secrets to come out South Korea, the Veracruz may get you to think twice about a mid-size crossover.

Volvo XC70
The best-performing all-wheel-drive wagon on the market? Volvo owners don't need convincing.
